"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

Waiting On Wednesday (08)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we seriously can’t wait for.
Here's my pick for the week, that I seriously can't wait for:

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

For budding costume designer Lola Nolan, the more outrageous, the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins move back into the house next door.

When the family returns and Cricket—a gifted inventor and engineer—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

I'm excited!  Are you excited? No?!  WHY NOT???  If you are one of the few unfortunate souls who hasn't read Anna and the French Kiss, Stephanie Perkins' first novel, then you are missing out on the AWESOME that is she.  See if you had read about Anna, then you would know why I'm so so so excited to read about Lola.

So now you must go and do the right thing: pick up Anna and the French Kiss, sit down (lie down...whatever), read it, squee about it's awesome, and finally wait impatiently for Lola and the Boy Next Door.  Just. Like. Me.

Wolves, Boys, & Other Things that Might Kill Me
by Kristen Chandler

"Thanks," I say with as much sarcasm as is possible to interject into a single syllable.  "I'll try to remember that."

"You'll remember," says Becca. "Some things you can't forget, even when you want to."

"You have no idea," I say quietly.

     "Yes I do," she says.

      Adults, I think. Spare me.

(page. 54)

I fell in love with this cover, and that was the biggest reason I picked the book up.  But it is really starting to pick up.  From just the little I read, there seems to be a lot of different plot lines and they all feel like they're going to intertwine down the road.  I like when that happens because there isn't much point to a plot line, if all it does is pitter out.

In addition to all that, I found some interesting quizzes through The Book Garden. I think my answers are pretty spot on and awesome.  You guys should try them out as well!

You Are Fantasy / Sci Fi

You have an amazing imagination, and in your mind, all things are possible.

You are open minded, and you find the future exciting. You crave novelty and progress.

Compared to most people, you are quirky and even a bit eccentric. You have some wacky ideas.

And while you may be a bit off the wall, there's no denying how insightful and creative you are.

You Are a Paperback Book

You are an avid reader, and you probably buy a lot of books. And nothing beats an inexpensive paperback you can carry around.

You read whatever you feel like reading. You aren't a snob, and you aren't ashamed of your tastes.

You always have a stack of books to get through, and it seems to be constantly multiplying.

You don't mind waiting for a book you want to come out in paperback. You have plenty to read in the meantime!

You Are Fiction

You believe that life is magical, especially when you enter the world of ideas.

You are highly creative and imaginative. The real world often isn't enough for you.

You are optimistic and hopeful. You believe that we craft our own destinies.

You believe that if you can dream it, you can do it. And you do a lot of dreaming.

 Jane by April Lindner

"I cast around for my job-interview voice, the one that had apparently served me so well yesterday.  Though she couldn't see me, I three back my shoulders and raised my chin.  "I look forward to hearing more.  Where will I be working?"

Julie Draper laughed in a surprisingly musical tone.  "This will sound bizarre, but I can't give you any more details over the phone.  How soon can you meet me?""
(pg. 6)

So good so far!  It's captured my interest, and because I adore Jane Eyre, I really hope I like this.  But it does seem promising right now!!

The Big Crunch by Pete Hautman

Her eye would clear up whether she did anything or not.
     Her cold would go away.
She would go back to school.
Her parents would pack up and move again.
     The universe would contract.

I've just started reading this book.  I never heard of it before, but I went to the library today and this jumped out at me.  It sounds like a good book and the first couple pages I've read sound promising.
Let me know if any of you have read this and what you thought!
