"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

Let me tell you...

about an author I really like!

Her name is Jackson Pearce (I know Jackson is a pretty kickass name for a chick!). She is an awesome writer! I first heard of her through good old John Green, that rascally author of such books as Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns (His new book with David Levithan is out now called Will Grayson, Will Grayson! Go get it!).

ANYWAY. JGreen mentioned Jackson in one of his vlogs, so I clicked on the link to her Youtube page, and boy was I glad I did.

I picked up her first book, As You Wish, a couple days after watching her videos and reading her blog, and it is awesome! Here's the description from Amazon:
As she ponders what she calls the "social mystery" that makes some kids seem to belong and others not, Viola, 16, wishes she didn't feel quite so invisible. Ever since her boyfriend confided in her and came out to his high school class, she has felt neglected and alone, while Lawrence has been adopted by the school's Royal Family of popular kids. When Viola accidentally summons a jinn, she contemplates the three wishes he offers to grant her, while Jinn considers Viola herself. Told in the alternating voices of Jinn and Viola, this story is a romance first and a fantasy last. After she wishes herself into the arms of popular Aaron, Viola finds herself comparing him unfavorably to Jinn, while Jinn, uncommonly critical of Aaron, struggles with his blossoming feelings for Viola.

Anyway, it is awesome! So when I found out about Jackson's new book, Sisters Red, I was estatic! It is a re-imagining of the Red Riding Hood story, but 10x better! (I'm supposing this based on her previous awesome, as the book hasn't come out yet)

Here's a description:
Scarlet March lives to hunt the Fenris--the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.

Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts ferociously alongside her. But even as more girls' bodies pile up in the city and the Fenris seem to be gaining power, Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves. She finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax and Scarlett's only friend--but does loving him mean betraying her sister and all that they've worked for?
Sounds really great right? So what I'm telling you is to go and check out Jackson Pearce's As You Wish and Sisters Red because you won't be disappointed!

PS: She also has two book in the works which are companion pieces to Sisters Red, Sweetly and Fathomless. Both re-imagine classic fairy tales, and I'm excited to read them!
