"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

White Collar

I love this show. No pilot has hit me as hard as this one since Supernatural. It's very smart, and all the characters are likable and well-rounded. Suspense, hot guys, criminals all things I love in a show.

We Heart It! This is a really great website to get inspired. I love going through Flickr, but sometimes it's hard to find really great images. But with We Heart It! I can see all the images people have "heart-ed" right on the front page and its always changing. Most of the photos and art work are really great.

Improv Everywhere
is amazing!! If you haven't heard of it or seen any of the missions on Youtube, get out of the hole you live in!!! "Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 85 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City." Every time I see one of the missions I smile.

Guilty Pleasure

Being a full-sized woman I enjoy my accessories. Necklaces, earrings, bags, shoes, scarves, headbands, etc. I especially love the accessories from Anthropologie because they're always beautiful and eclectic which is my style. The necklaces above are some of my favorite and are on my wishlist for Christmas.

What's your favorite thing to shop for and where do you like to shop?

GoForth

I am really loving Levi's Go Forth campaign. I know it's this whole big contest/scavenger hunt deal, but the ads are gorgeous and have a good meaning. I just feel like I'm thrown into another world watching them.

(My favorite because of WALT WHITMAN!)

(Imagery is great! And more Whitman!)

(The explanation video. Also very good)

I just can really get behind the message of discovery and change within these ads. In this time, it is my generation's job to step up and go forth to find new places for our society to grow. So even though these are by a jean company I think everyone should get behind the message.

Book Trailers: Get the students hooked!

As a pre-service teacher I'm always learning new things to engage my students. I love collecting activites and ideas from veteran teachers that I can work to incorporate into my classroom. In my Adolescent Lit. class we've been doing book-talks. Pretty much it is suppose to be a way to hook the students into the book. We had to make our own and also highlight a technique we found elsewhere.

For mine I made an artifact bag, showing important parts from Frank Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars.

The example I showed was a book trailer for Scott Westerfield's Leviathan. This book is going to be awesome, and I feel like the trailer really would capture students attention.

Here's some other trailers for books which look really good:

A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin

Behind Every Illusion by Christina Harner

Impossible by Nancy Werlin

Candor by Pam Bachorz

The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey

Oh that would be so polite

When one is sick with strep throat (as I am) and is curled up with her two comforters, three pillows, laptop, and iTunes (as again I am) and the urge for some tacos comes up, she does not want to get fucking dressed to go get them.

It would be polite of Taco Bell to deliver, don't you think? It would be polite for any place besides Broadway (pizza shop) to deliver to my house. Chinese, Tai, Subs, German, etc anywhere besides a goddamn PIZZA PLACE!!!

ARGH!

I guess I'm going to don my incognito, I'm sick and look like shit outfit. Thank God for drive-thrus.

I haven't done one of these in a while. It's kinda hard to do something every week BUT I do have some Things I'm Lovin' this Thursday (Well now its Friday....)

I saw this last week on Saturday with one of my best friends. This movie made me want to go dig out my old skates and pummel a chick. Alas, my town isn't a big "derby" town so that puts a nix on my dream. It is just as good to imagine myself up on the big screen. Being a part of the Hurl Scouts would be cool. I'd want my name to be Edgar Allan Hoe! Go see this movie with a group of girlfriends or your closet buddy; it is worth it!

This is one of the best shows on television that no one knows about. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are amazing actors. You feel with them, celebrate with them, bleed with them. This show is one of the highlights of my Thursday night. I just really want more people in the industry to recognize the brilliance Eric Kripke has created.

BUST magazine has been one of my very favorite periodicals for over the last two years or so since discovering it. Celebrating courageous, feisty, smart, crafty women who have "somethin' to say". With incredible fashion issues each year, book reviews with a sassy twist and tons of great DIY projects, ideas and companies, BUST is one of the very best alternative periodicals out there. The latest issue has two fabulous women, Ellen Page and Alia Shawkat, gracing the cover; the two same women who star in my first TiLt pick Whip It. What a coincidence.

There is a German restaurant by my apartment, Mr. Dunderbaks: Biergarten & Marketplace, which imports candy and beer from all over Europe. My favorite is the Haribo gummi bears. The legit German brand, not the American version (I can tell the difference). The restaurant itself is AMAZING, and if any of you are in the Temple Terrace area come visit!

My tattoo. I have been debating and re-working the design for a couple months. Still not entirely happy, but as close as I'm going to get to the final thing without an actual tattoo artist. Just have to run it by my Dad for his blessing. I know it might seem very chauvinistic that he wants to "approve" my tattoo, but he'll make me think about if this is something I can always live with. I might end up just adding an ink well without the text. Hmmm dunno, but I'm excited!

This man could not be more gorgeous. He is gracing the November cover of NYLON Guys. I think he is such a talented actor. I fell hard for him in Hairspray and he was awesome in 17 Again. I'm really looking forward to seeing Me and Orson Wells. Anyway, my point is that no one should write Zac off as a Disney actor because he really is talented.

Here's a little taste from the interview:
Zac Efron goes man-to-man with NYLON Guys.

Is Zac Efron the next king of the silver screen? It may be too soon to tell, but the actor—who turns 22 next Sunday—is certainly making good start. This month sees the release of the Richard Linklater-directed Me and Orson Welles, in which Efron plays an aspiring thespian who by a series of fortunate events is thrown into the iconic director’s infamous production of Julius Caesar, which was the first Shakespeare play ever staged on Broadway. NYLON Guys went sailing with Efron in Vancouver to talk about his transition from Disney pin-up to serious actor.

On Me and Orson Welles. “It’s the first time I’ve ever watched a movie [that I’m in] and in the end I’m like, ‘OK! I didn’t check my watch once!’”

On growing up musically inclined. “I was constantly singing. I would hear things on the radio and just be able to spit them out instantly, with perfect memorization and tone. It wasn’t like I took pride in it; there was no effort. My parents were like ‘Shut up. Please stop singing. It’s annoying.’”

On whether celebrity albums are necessary. “If anyone asked themselves that, then we wouldn’t have the crap we are listening to today. If your heart’s not in it, don’t do it. And don’t do it for money. That’s my philosophy.”

On Disney fame. “I try not to look at all of it. You can’t enjoy or celebrate it; it’s not a real thing. The face on the lunchbox and shit—you can’t share that with your friends.”

Breath in, breath out.

Ah the glimmer of new tv!

Glee:

What can I say to express the awesome that is Glee? My favorite new show. It combines all my favorites: muscials, teen rom-com, quirky outsiders, and spot on humor. If you're not watching it, START! [If I miss it, I cry!]

FlashForward:

My second new favorite show. I'm really enjoying it. I love a good sci-fi mystery. Theories and clues are so fun to find. Each episode you learn more and more about everyone's flashforward. So far many of the ones which were revealed have animal connections, more specifically pigeons. The kid Charlie also holds some clues, I think. But definitely check it out if you haven't seen it yet. JOHN CHO is a main character! Come on, you all know you love him! [If I miss it, I cry!]

Community:

Joel freakin Mchale people! Comedy is spot on in this show. It's so funny and they aren't trying to pretend to be an accurate depiction of a community college, so I don't have that problem at all. I can laugh at the ridiculousness of all the situations. Worth a look; just takes an episode to hook you. Always catching it!

Eastwick:

I was really tentative about how good this show was going to be. But after watching the first two episodes, I definitely feel that the show is worth my time. Its a cute supernatural mystery with women empowerment thrown in. It differs from the movie The Witches of Eastwick, but there are still many similarities. The women have curves and are all gorgeous. Just a nice show to get lost in, much like a good romance novel. [Always catching it!]

Couger Town:

Hilarious!! Courtney Cox is amazing, and this is a really smart take on a "taboo" topic. I love every character in the show. None feel unneeded or too over the top. It just keeps coming with the humor and I just adore it. Great show to watch with your girlfriends! [Always catching it!]

The Vampire Diaries:

I love L.J. Smith's books which this show is based on. So I was very excited to watch it. I have to say I'm not overwhelmed. I think the biggest reason is the cliche that this show is falling into, which seems to be rampant with shows from the CW. These books are full of powerful women and love which traverses centuries. I'm not convinced yet. I will say that Ian Somerhalder's portrayal of Damon is spot on. I'm going to give it until next week to really capture my interest, but if it hasn't picked up I'm dropping it. [Catch it when I can.]

Modern Family:

This show is not as funny as the previews are making it out to be. The relationships between the families are a little over the top. Also why does every teenage girl have to be some whiny prissy, "omg my parents are so embarrassing and noone understands me" emo brat? My friends and I had our days but it was never a constant thing. I seriously want to slap this character's face. Also, it irks me even more because the actor who is in the role played Maddie Healy on Lipstick Jungle, another annoying brat of a girl. Sorry Sarah Hyland, but your acting is crap and too over the top for me to enjoy it. [Dropped from my line-up.]

The Forgotten:

While the premise sounds awesome, the execution needs work. I could just as well see this on Law and Order, Bones, NCIS; you name the cop show I'll give you an example of a Jane/John Doe they've identified. [Dropped from the line-up.]

NCIS: Los Angeles:
Didn't need to happen period. [Not even watched.]

There's some shows I'm waiting to start, like V. And of course I'm watching my old favorites: Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural, Bones, NCIS (the ORIGINAL) Law and Order: SVU, Private Practice, Fringe, The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock and every single Bravo show (Flipping Out, The Rachel Zoe Project, The Real Housewives, Top Chef, etc). Television is one of my few indulgences and I do enjoy it so much.

So what are your favorites and not-so-favorites this season? Let me know!
