"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

Top Ten Tuesday (38)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because they are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. They'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Each week they will post a new Top Ten list complete with one of their bloggers’ answers. Everyone is welcome to join. All they ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND post a comment on their post with a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post to share.  If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
The topic this week is:
Top Ten Books That Will Make You Swoon
(set those readers to Valentine's Day)

  1. A Tale of Two Centuries by Rachel Harris
  2. Falling in Love with English Boys by Melissa Jensen
  3. This is What Happiness Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith
  4. Remembrance by Michelle Madow
  5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
  6. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
  7. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  8. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  9. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
  10. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I tried to give a mix of both classics and contemporaries.  I love both kind of stories especially if they're a great mix of love and other real life things.  In each book picked, romance and love are very important parts of the story, but they're not the whole story.  For me, any realistic romance must be balanced in this way.

Happy Valentine's Day my lovely readers!  Let me know in the comments some of your swoon worthy books, and don't forget to stop on by The Broke and the Bookish to see the rest of the lists!
