"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

The Summary

On a hot summer night, a screech of brakes and shattering glass changes two lives forever.

Liv wakes in the hospital, confused when they call her Morgan. She assumes it’s a case of mistaken identity, yet when the bandages come off, it’s not her face in the mirror anymore. It’s her best friend Morgan’s.

Morgan always seemed to have the perfect life, yet Liv must navigate endlessly disturbing secrets of the criminal and murderous variety—and a romance that feels like a betrayal. Torn between the boy she loved as Liv and the boy she’s grown to love as Morgan, Liv still has to survive Morgan’s last request.

My Review

One fateful night, Liv, Morgan, Nathan, and Clay are out joyriding when everything changes, and not for the better.  When the car they're in collides with an oncoming truck, Liv is thrown from the car while Morgan, Clay, and Nathan are injured.  Once at the hospital, the reader finds out that Liv died, but is she really dead?  Liv's consciousness lives on in Morgan's body.  And this is the twist that puts this book above other thrillers.

A interesting mix of supernatural/magical realism/contemporary/thriller (it's really hard to figure out what this book can be categorized as), one thing is for sure, love is at the heart of this book.  Liv, in Morgan's body, has to deal with the fact that she can't go back to her old life. This includes her family, but also her boyfriend, Nathan.  Nathan, who happens to be the younger brother of Clay, Morgan's boyfriend.  Morgan, whose body Liv now inhabits.  And Liv may just be falling for the Clay.

The romance is so sweet and realistic, and while this could've gone into the love triangle realm, which I dislike, Aguirre is able to nimbly walk the line.  The reader will fall in love with Clay right alongside Liv, but will also ache for Nathan, the boy she has to leave behind.

And while the romance is an important part, it is the mystery that keeps you hooked.  You'd think the biggest mystery is how did Liv's consciousness get transported to Morgan's body, but that is only one of the mysteries in this books, and for me, one of the less important ones.  I can't go more into the mysteries without spoiling the story, but there are twists everywhere and you are pulled along for the ride as Liv tries to unravel everything.

Like Never and Always by Ann Aguirre is a fast-paced, heartfelt thriller that keeps you captivated until the end.  I really loved this one, and I love few thrillers.  Definitely pick this one up; luckily it is out in bookstores now!
