"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

Recommend A... (2)

Welcome to the first installment of "Recommend A...", a fun new meme created by Shanyn over at Chick Loves Lit. Shanyn will post a new prompt each week, and anyone interested in participating will post a book recommendation that follows the prompt.  A different way to get recommendations!

This week's prompt is: Recommend a Book with a Green Cover!

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Another Greek gods book, but such a great one!  The Percy Jackson series has 5 books in it, with The Lightning Thief being the first in the series.  I really love the idea of a camp for half-bloods, children of gods and humans, where they learn how to use their abilities to defend themselves against the monsters wanting to kill them.  This is a really great middle-grade series, and has a follow-up series, Heroes of Olympus,  as well!

  1. Oooh good choice! I didn't even think of this one. I have heard good things but I tried to listen to the audiobook and I hated it! It makes me so sad! I might try to pick it up again in print format, sometimes the narrators just ruin the whole thing. :]

  2. I've heard quite a bit about this series. I haven't ever picked it up, but I love mythology, so I know it is just a matter of time.
